Ollas
An Olla (pronounced oh-yah) is a handmade terracotta clay pot used as an ancient method of drip irrigation for container gardening or ground applications. Ancient agrarian cultures living in or near desert regions have used olla irrigation methods for millennia.
Thought to have originated in Northern Africa and brought to the Americas by the conquistadors, research has also found ollas used in China over 4000 years ago.
In our backyard here at ECM, we grow seedlings to sell in 4" pots! We have 4 small greenhouses behind our office building,
as well as a demo garden, chicken coop, and compost yard. In February we start the plants from seed inside under a light table. As they mature and the weather gets warmer, they are transplanted intothe 4" pots and are moved outside into the greenhouses!
Try some authentic Hatch Green Chile Honey on your next sopapilla or a dab of our Vanilla Honey in a steamy cup of tea.
